World’s First Ever Pop Art Exhibition
In October, the first major exhibition just for pop art will be opening in London. “Pop Art Portraits” brought 52 major works in pop art together. They included pieces by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Richard Hamilton, Patrick Caulfield, Robert Rauschenburg, and Sir Peter Blake. The exhibition includes a section just for portraits of Marilyn Monroe, who was a major US icon, and the subject of many pop art works, in the 1950s. The exhibition also aims to show people how pop art was different from classic old-style paintings, and created a new genre of colorful images from popular culture. The exhibition is supposed to start October 11th and end in January next year. After it’s time in London, it will move on to Germany from February 23 to June 1.
