			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Claes Oldenburg was born January 28, 1929. He was born in Stockholm, Sweden and moved to the USA in his early childhood. Claes attended Yale and the University of Chicago. In 1960 he created a collection of works that helped establish his reputation.  Claes uses ordinary objects to express his art in a soft manner. Since 1976 he has worked with Coosje van Bruggen and together they have over 40 large scale projects. Below is Trowel I, which was one of the first projects Bruggen and Oldenburg have done together.</p>

<p>The photograph above, found on <a title="DPChallenge" href="http://www.dpchallenge.com">dpchallenge.com</a>, is of coffee, with a drop of milk landing on it&#8217;s surface. Photography is a form of art and there are many different  styles and techniques. This photo is really cool because it isn&#8217;t something I would ever think to capture as a photograph. I think it&#8217;s awesome how this photographer was able to find the beauty in something so unusual and random. This picture is a form of modern art. I really like the way the milk to form when it splashed against the surface of the coffee. I think picture is beautiful and amazing all around.</p>

Takashi uses icons from mass media and pop culture and changes them into his own sculptures. Some of these sculptures have even been up to 30 feet in height. He also specializes in <em>Superflat</em> paintings which is a combination of manga and anime. Manga is the Japanese word for cartoons. Anime is short for animation and is known around the world</p>

<p>The painting above by Nikolai Bird, is of the Statue of Liberty.  The statue stands, over 150 feet tall, on Liberty Island in the New York Harbour. The statue was designed by a man named Frédéric Bartholdi, as a gift to the United States. It was presented to the US in 1886.</p>
<p>I really like the way the blue contrasts with the statue. The two colors work well with each other and keep the painting simple, yet beautiful.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Sir Peter Blake is a famous pop artist from England.  He was born in the year 1932 and is still living  today.  Blake often paints images for commercials, advertisements, and wrestlers. He is most famous for painting album covers such as <em>Sgt. Pepper</em> in 1967 for The Beatles and <em>Face Dances</em> for The Who.  Blake had his first single exhibition in 1960 and around 1961 he became a recognizable icon for emerging pop artists. Blake also won the 1961 John Moore&#8217;s Junior Award for his painting <em>Self Portrait with Badges</em>. His popularity exploded after he starred in Ken Russels&#8217;s film, <em>Pop Goes the Easel</em>. In 2002, Blake was given knighthood for his services to art.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Robert Milton Ernest Rauschenberg is an American artist.  It&#8217;s been said that his work helped inspire the Pop Art movement of the 60&#8242;s and beyond.  He is most famous for his &#8220;Combines&#8221; of the 1950&#8242;s. Combines were where random objects of different shape and size were placed in innovative combinations. Rauschenberg has worked with painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, paper making, and performance. Robert studied Kansas City Art Institute and the Academie Julian in Paris France, before the legendary Black Canyon College in North Carolina. Robert Rauschenberg has had a long career in the arts, and he still continues to work from his home/studio in Captiva,  Florida.</p>
